Facing this problem during their holidays in Bulgaria and its wonderful landscapes, the initiators of this platform now offer you the possibility to get in touch with hiking guides and nature experts of the administrations of selected protected areas in Bulgaria directly and straight ahead.
These specially trained tour guides will offer unique nature and hiking experiences to you!
The idea of establishing direct contact between nature-interested travellers and protected areas experts convinced the German Federal Environmental Foundation to support tour guide trainings and the development of this platform.
The project idea behind this platform
The idea of establishing direct contact between nature-interested travelers and protected areas experts came up, because protected areas in Bulgaria are the backbone for the protection of unique European landscapes and are of increasing importance for expanding nature tourism, especially hiking activities.
The current situation is characterised by the facts that protected areas serve as attractive destinations for tour operators, whereas tourists themselves often do not realise that they are hiking, biking or residing in a protected area.
Additionally, the protected areas themselves do not participate very much in the added value tourism may create in a certain region.
The main project objective is to improve this situation for both, tourists and protected areas, by the implementation of enhanced visitor guiding systems. The project intends to generate added value on the ground by using the specialised nature-know-how of experts and staff members of protected areas, who are willing to work as hiking tour guides besides their regular duties.
